a lil bit info to my engineering based friend who wants to enter oil and gas company

Posted on: July 9, 2012

Last night, when i was in the car with my brother on our back KL home, i ask my brother is his company would like to recruit freshie. Fyi, he was a civil engineer and had been involved in oil and gas company for almost 6 years. I ask my brother if i can introduce some of my friends to this field, which i think i have confidence on them . So this is my brother answers to me :

1. It is not because we won’t hiring a freshie, but majority/almost all oil and gas company will not recruiting fresh graduate to this field. Especially involving the oversea company. So basically the company will take at least 2 years experience in advance, and better with a Oil and Gas background.

2. Ask your friend if they are really interested to join Oil and Gas field, within this 2-3 years, make a lot of contacts. A LOT, so that you will get recommendation from the people who in this field . Recommendation is VERY important if you wants to enter this field because most engineers will recommended people who they think can manage themself very very well and people they already knew. That is why everytime i go work here and there, i saw similar faces working together.

3. Well, i am sorry to say this but most oil and gas company rarely wants to take girls to work with them. Just imagine yourself a girl, staying on the ‘pelantar’ for few month surrounded by guys. most girls will do management and not be send to the site. i mean there is still a girl who work at the dock but it’s a rare cases.

4. But if your friend realy realy really wants this sooner, send their cv each time the bigger company buat carrier fair. Kadang-kadang nasib menyebelahi dapatlah masuk awal, tp i can say for the first two years, you will be trained to do things. but depend on your luck jugak.

5. by the way, adik nak introduce sapa? asked them to gain experience then, after few years, i’ll try my best to help your friend ok.

Hope, this helps. but i think if you guys  really want this…Make it happened. Jangan angan-angan tahi ayam je., hahaha being apart from your family is the most hardest part in this oil and gas business.

all the best to all my friends. 🙂
